Details + Creativity + Your Story = Ryel J Photography

I love the cinema. I could sit and watch movies for days on end. As a matter of fact growing up I always wanted to work in film (I did briefly and that’s a whole other story) as a set designer because I am fascinated by the attention to detail that goes into creating a story. The books on a shelf behind the main character, the color of the walls of the house, the type of furniture, these things tell the true story to me and begin to peel back the layers and reveal a little more about each character. It makes the story more personal.

This is the same approach I take to my images. You can call them photographs but I think of them as so much more. I want every frame to tell a story, more importantly your story. I want to capture the subtle details that make your day about you and the things that matter most in your life. I don’t have clients, I make new friends and as with any friendship I spend time to get to know you so I recognize the moments that are important to you, not just the ones that make a good image.

So please, sit back with a big cup of coffee (the more cream and sugar the better I say) and take a look at some of the stories I have had the privilege of telling and if you like what you see feel free to call anytime cause I love making new friends.

xoxo Ryel

Sara + Brian = Married!

Creativity is in the details and details make your special wedding day. Another aspect that I love about capturing weddings are the super creative venues I get to go to. When Meg approched me to shoot a photobooth at Sara and Brain’s wedding, I was delighted. This being my first photobooth I was also very excited. When I arrived to Sara and Brian’s reception at the Newland Barn, I was over joyed with their creativity. I just knew that they were going to be fun to photograph.

I didn’t however, know how fun their guests were going to be!! Here are just a few of my favorites…

Thank you Sara and Brian for your radness and putting on such a fabulous wedding. I was honored to capture your photobooth! Blessings for years to come in your fun and happy marriage!!

Rachel + Dave = Married!!!

Rachel and Dave we’re APU sweethearts. Who met… “didn’t date” for a few months… fell in love and tied the knot before close friends and family in Long Beach. Now when I heard these two love birds were proclaiming their love for each other in my college town I couldn’t be more excited. Not only for them but Long Beach is one of the sweetest places to shoot!

I was so honored to capture their special day with the sooo talented and creative Sandra! Watching her work her magic with these super energetic grooms men was delightful.

Rachel and Dave decided to do a first look. Capture all their groupings of bridal party and family photographs before the ceremony. I highly recommend this to my Brides and Grooms who desire to partake in the cocktail hour and spend their time with their guest immediately. Also I remember my wedding day and spending those moments with your love just one on one is priceless!

Without further adieu

Over this past year watching you strive and succeed in triathlons has been such a joy. I love how adventurous you are. Your strength of character and compassion for others is overwhelming to me. I am amzamed that you chose me to spend the rest of your life with. I love your laugh, your grin and your wit.

Two Pups + Beach Adventure= The Miller Family

When Debra approached me at Church to capture her family portrait, I was so excited because the Millers are so fun to be around! If I haven’t mentioned this before… Husband and I spend Sunday mornings hanging out with our Church’s youth group. Hawken, their son, always has a smile on and totally up for anything in the Jr. High Youth group!

When I arrived for our family session there was a buzz of excitement in the air. This is one of my favorite parts of my job. I learned that Paul originally hails from the great State of Minnesota. My amazing husband Dayle happens to be born in St Paul and in the Miller family its a staple to meet people from Minnesota in all settings. Without them planning it at all.

Here are some of my favorites from our shoot…

A sweet moment between Mom and son

We headed down to the beach for some fun in the sun.

This my favorite shot

Time for some Minnesota hockey looks

These two have such a great relationship!

Thank you Paul, Debra and Hawken for such a stellar day!
